POST 916
So 916 has come and gone. Malaysia was to have a new government but that did not happen. Am I disappointed? Sure. Am I angry with and have I lost my faith in PKR? No. Do I believe that PKR has the required numbers of MPs to form a government? Yes. It was never going to be easy. We all knew that. The ruling government will not make it easy. And I believe that PKR was right in trying to have the transition done in a peaceful way rather than bamboozle their way in. We all know the BN government in trying to keep its hold on power, will use the ISA or some other draconian measures to stop a PKR led government from taking over, the excuse being that the latter ‘pose a threat to security’. And PKR has to tread carefully to avoid giving BN that very excuse. So what if we don’t have a new government as expected on 916? or 1016 or 1216? What is important is change is imminent, change is possible and change there will be before the end of the year.
Although the PM has indicated that he will not use the ISA on Anwar, he may still play hardball and make things difficult for the latter, for example, by not extending his bail come Sep 24 when Anwar goes to court to face a sodomy charge. A lot is at stake here and unless Badawi is the gentleman we all feel he is , only that he has been ill-advised by his coteri of ’close advisers’, then we can all expect some tense days and weeks ahead with both presiding government and government-in-waiting going all out for the home stretch.
